A prayer for my husband
If you only pray one, pray this one. It's short enough to say before he's out the door, and it covers what most wives pray for: his safety, his strength, his health, his faith and your marriage.
Lord, thank you for the man you gave me.
Protect him on the road and at work.
Give him strength for what he carries quietly, and rest when he won't take it for himself.
Heal what hurts, in his body and in his heart.
Keep his faith steady and his heart soft.
Help me love him well, on the easy days and the long ones.
Keep us close to you, and close to each other.
Amen.

Pray it before he leaves, or while the coffee's going.
Good morning, Lord. Before this day gets loud, I give you my husband. Go ahead of him into every meeting, job site and drive. Give him a clear head for the decisions he has to make and patience for the people who test it. Let him feel your peace in the middle of the busy, and bring him home tonight with something left for himself. Amen.

Prayer for my husband at work and for his success
Most husbands carry work home in their heads. The first prayer is for his workday; the second is for the bigger things he's working toward.
For his workday
Father, bless the work of my husband's hands today. Give him focus when it's hard to concentrate, wisdom when the answer isn't clear and integrity when the shortcut is easy. Let him be treated fairly, and let him treat others well. When the day is done, let him leave the job at work and come home free. Amen.
"Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men." Colossians 3:23
For his success and protection
Lord, you know what my husband is hoping for: the promotion, the deal, the business, the paycheck that finally covers everything. Open the doors that should open and close the ones that shouldn't, and give him the courage to walk through. Protect him from people who would take advantage of him. Don't let his success ever cost him his health, his faith or his family. And on the days it doesn't come, remind him he's already enough. Amen.
"Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established." Proverbs 16:3

Prayers for your husband's job
A truck driver's wife and a firefighter's wife pray about different things. Find his job:
Truck driver
Lord, ride with him through every mile. Keep him awake, keep the other drivers careful and keep his heart close to home. Bring him back to us safe. Amen.
Police officer
Father, cover him on every call. Give him sound judgment in split seconds, and protect him from harm and from the weight of what he sees. Bring him home at the end of every shift. Amen.
Firefighter
Lord, go in with him and bring him out. Guard his lungs, his body and his crew. Give him courage when he needs it and rest when the calls stop. Amen.
Military, deployed
Father, watch over him where I can't. Keep his mind clear and his spirit strong. Comfort him on the lonely nights, and bring him home whole. Amen.
Nurse, doctor or paramedic
Lord, steady his hands and his heart. Give him strength for long shifts, compassion that doesn't run out and peace about the patients he can't save. Amen.
Farmer or rancher
Lord of the harvest, send the rain at the right time, and keep the machines and animals from harming him. Give him patience with what he can't control and a good return for his work. Amen.
Lineman or construction
Father, keep him safe at every height and around every live wire and heavy load. Keep his focus sharp and his crew careful, and bring him home in one piece. Amen.
Night shift
Lord, keep him alert while the world sleeps, and give him real rest when it doesn't. Protect his health, and help us find our time together around his hours. Amen.
Pastor or ministry
Father, care for the man who cares for everyone. Guard him from burnout, give him friends who don't need anything from him and joy in his own walk with you. Amen.
Runs his own business
Lord, give him wisdom with every decision and every dollar. Bring good customers and honest partners, and remind him the business is not who he is. Amen.
Retired
Father, thank you for his years of work. Give him purpose in this new season, the health to enjoy it and new ways to use everything he's learned. Amen.
Prayer for my husband's protection
For long drives, dangerous jobs and every ordinary day he walks out the door.
Lord, be my husband's shield today. Watch over him on the road, at work and everywhere in between. Keep his mind alert and his hands steady. Turn accidents away before they happen, and keep danger far from him. Bring him home to me safe tonight. Amen.
"The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore." Psalm 121:8
When he's traveling
Psalm 121, the verse above, was likely a blessing for travelers setting out on the road to Jerusalem: "going out" and "coming in" means leaving and coming home.
Father, my husband is traveling today. Go with him through every airport, highway and hotel. Keep him safe, keep him rested and keep him faithful. Make the miles between us feel short, and bring him home soon. Amen.
"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Psalm 91:11
When he's far from home
Lord, my husband is far from home tonight, deployed, on the road or working away. Keep him safe where I can't. Give him rest in strange beds, friends he can trust and a clear mind for the work in front of him. Hold our family together while he's gone, and bring him home whole, in body and in heart. Amen.

Prayer for my husband's health and healing
For his health
Lord, thank you for the body you gave my husband, the one that works so hard for us. Strengthen it. Give him good sleep and the sense to rest before he's forced to. Protect him from sickness and injury, and help him take care of himself the way he takes care of everyone else. Amen.
When he's sick or facing surgery
Father, you know what the doctors know and everything they don't. Guide their hands and their decisions. Heal my husband's body, calm his fear and give him patience for the slow parts of getting better. Give me strength to care for him without running myself empty, and let us come out of this closer. Amen.
"Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed." Jeremiah 17:14
When he's feeling his age
Father, my husband is noticing the years: the knees, the back, the checkups he used to skip. Give him health for the years ahead and the humility to take care of himself. Where he feels he's slowing down, remind him he's still needed, still strong and still loved. Amen.

What husbands carry (and rarely say)
Pew Research Center, Survey Center on American Life, US Bureau of Labor Statistics
Men pray less than women (37% of US men pray daily, compared with 50% of women), and most of them don't talk much about what's weighing on them. Surveys show where the weight usually sits:
- Providing. 71% of Americans say a man has to be able to support a family to be a good husband. Only 32% say that about a wife. When money is tight or his job is shaky, that's the pressure he's under.
- You may be the only one he talks to. 85% of married men say their wife is the first person they turn to with a personal problem, and only about 1 in 5 men got emotional support from a friend in the past week. Pray for good friends for him.
- Danger at work. About 92% of the people killed on the job in the US are men, and transportation jobs like trucking are the deadliest.
- What Christian men name themselves. In a 2025 survey of evangelical men, the struggles that came up were busyness, work and family stress, temptation, grief, loneliness, anxiety and feeling like a failure.
The quickest way to know what he needs is to ask him: "What's one thing I can pray about for you this week?" Then pray for exactly that.
Prayer for my husband in difficult times
"Difficult times" covers a lot. Here's one prayer for each of the hard seasons wives ask about most.
When he's lost his job
Lord, my husband feels like he's let us down, and he hasn't. Lift the shame he's carrying. Remind him that his worth was never his job title or his paycheck. Give him courage for every application and every interview, and open the right door at the right time. Help me be his encourager, not one more pressure. We trust you to provide. Amen.
When he's worn out and stressed
Father, my husband is running on empty and won't say so. Lighten what he carries, or give him the strength to carry it. Quiet the worries that keep him up at night. Give him one real friend to talk to, and help him hear me when I tell him he's allowed to rest. Amen.
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
When he's grieving
Lord, my husband lost someone he loved, and he's grieving the way many men do: quietly, and mostly alone. Sit with him in it. Give him permission to be sad, and give me the patience to be there without trying to fix it. Comfort him with good memories, and hold him close. Amen.
"The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart." Psalm 34:18
When he's fighting a habit
Father, you see the habit my husband is fighting, whether it's the drinking, the screens or something he can't say out loud. Give him the strength to say no one more time, and people around him who will help him stay honest. Heal whatever is underneath it. Guard my heart from bitterness, and help me support him without carrying what's his to carry. Amen.
Prayer for a husband who doesn't share your faith
If he doesn't believe, or he's drifted, it's tempting to push. Peter's advice to wives in the same spot comes down to praying more and pushing less: some husbands are won "without the word" by the way their wives live (1 Peter 3:1).
Lord, you love my husband even more than I do. You know what keeps him from you: the hurt, the doubts or just the busyness. I won't nag him into faith. Let him see you in how I treat him, in my patience, my kindness and my joy. Put the right people and the right moments in his path. Open his heart in your time, not mine, and give me peace while I wait. Amen.
"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you." Ezekiel 36:26
That's the verse Leslie Strobel prayed for her atheist husband, the journalist Lee Strobel, for close to two years. He became a Christian in 1981 and later wrote The Case for Christ.
Prayer for my husband as a father
Lord, thank you for the father my husband is. When the kids are small, give him patience at the end of a long day. When they're grown, give him the wisdom to know when to speak and when to just listen, and peace about the choices he can't make for them. Let our children, at every age, see in him what a good man looks like, and let him know how much he's needed. Amen.
"The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him." Proverbs 20:7
Blessing prayer for my husband
This is the blessing God gave Aaron to speak over Israel, in Numbers 6. It's also the oldest Bible text ever found: two tiny silver scrolls from around 600 BC, dug up in Jerusalem in 1979, carry these words, and people wore them as a charm for protection. You can say it over your husband with your hand on his shoulder and his name at the start.
"The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace."
Numbers 6:24-26
In everyday words:
[His name], the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord smile on you and be kind to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. Amen.
Birthday prayer for my husband
Father, thank you for another year of this man. Thank you for his laugh, his stubbornness, the way he fixes things and the way he loves us. Bless his new year with health, purpose and plenty of joy. Let him know how loved he is today, and every day after. Amen.
For his card: "On your birthday I thanked God for ___, for ___ and for every year since ___. I'd marry you all over again."
Prayer for my husband and our marriage
Lord, thank you for our marriage, the easy years and the hard ones. Keep us on the same side. When we argue, help us fight fair and forgive fast. When life gets busy, remind us to choose each other. Protect us from anything that would pull us apart, and keep you at the center of us. Amen.
"A threefold cord is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12
When you're angry at him
Some days the hardest person to pray for is the man you married. You don't have to pretend you're not hurt. Start where you are.
Lord, I don't feel like praying for my husband right now. I'm hurt and I'm angry, and you already know why. Help me tell the difference between what he did and who he is. Soften both our hearts. Give me words that build instead of words that win. Show him where he's wrong, and show me where I am too. I still want this marriage. Help me love him on purpose today, even before I feel it. Amen.
"Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath." Ephesians 4:26

What research says about praying for your spouse
Psychologists have tested this, mostly at Florida State University, and the results are better than you might expect:
- Less straying. In a 2010 experiment, people who prayed for their partner every day for four weeks were less likely to stray than people who spent the same time thinking good thoughts about their partner. In a follow-up, outside observers rated the people who had prayed as more committed.
- Quicker forgiveness. Saying a single prayer for a partner made people more forgiving toward them than describing the partner did.
- Commitment on both sides. In a study of 205 married couples, praying for your spouse predicted more commitment later, and both spouses' prayers counted.
- Happier marriages. In a 2026 survey of 3,125 married adults, people who pray daily had about 1.5 times the odds of a happy marriage, and of a stable one.
One detail stands out: the effect came from praying for the partner specifically. Prayer in general, or just thinking kind thoughts about them, didn't do the same.
Ways to let him know you prayed for him
- Send him the text. Most sections above have one, or use the prayer builder at the top to write one with his name.
- Leave a note where he'll find it: the truck console, his lunch bag, his wallet, the bathroom mirror.
- Tell him afterward. "I prayed about your interview all week" means more than most husbands will admit.
- Pray out loud before a big day, with your hand on his shoulder. It takes 20 seconds.
- Write it in his birthday or anniversary card.
- Give it to him as a song. Tell us what you pray for him, how he loves your family and the life you've built, and we'll turn it into an original song he can play in the truck. Hear a free preview first.
